Just listened to Merzbow - Emu (19:18). I had a really good time! You should check it out, it’s not for everyone, but if you like great noise, then it’s for you.

inspired

I have been slightly behind on most of my creative endeavors, waiting right until the deadline to throw something together. Lately though, it seems that everything that I have done this way comes out a little better than my original plans of creating a blissful finished product. I start out with a idea, then it changes and it makes the output of the finished product completely different than the idea I started with and to figure it out, I’d have to actually put some thought into the idea, so instead of following through, the idea gets placed in a full folder somewhere on the cluttered desk of my mind.

But my creative inspiration came together yesterday evening, when this little boy came up to me and asked “what’s the stuff on my t-shirt?”. We had this conversation about skeletons and the possible ways the bird ended up inside the cage of a skeleton. Then the kid asked “What’s that other thing around your shirt?”- it was my camera strap. Then he asked if I would like to take a photo of the magic glass egg. I took the photo and showed him it and he was inspired, I became his assistant, taking photos of things he pointed out. The best one was “Take a photo of my fist. Like this.” he held up his hand to my face and waited and the resulting shot sent him on his way to explore the farmers market.

It was so easy for him to know what he wanted, and the creativity just flowed and the end results where great. So for the next few projects, I’m going to just go with the flow and not think about the next steps and see how that goes. I’m sure it will leave a lot of the clutter behind and be way more fun.

Well, I found this inside one of the books I thought might be interesting. This was the greatest thing about the book! Here is some kids drawing as outsider art #6…

lost dictionary and demo

I’m going crazy. I have been looking for the dictionary for the past month and today I looked everywhere in the house- everywhere. And now I started looking for this CD I’ve been meaning to listen to, it was a demo from somebody, who I’m not sure, but the packaging was great and the hand scribbled disc and accompanying note had me very interested. I was thinking that it could of been just a fragment of a dream that it never existed on this plane, but G remembers it. He even listened to it and said that I would love it. And now it is gone like the dictionary. I will find it. I have to. Its not like it could be in many places. So if you sent me a demo in a white cardboard envelope with sparkly stickers of unicorns and rainbows and a funky slightly hard to read note, could you please resend it? Pretty please?

King Kooper

Who and what is King Kooper? That is the question that I tried to answer in my sleepy state last night. It is a very rare question, that most people wouldn’t not know the answer to. King Kooper is something that I would usually just drop in a conversation- “That basement was very King Kooper dungeon-est like, don’t you think?”. And when I tried to explain King Kooper to my husband- which really did surprise me that he didn’t know who he was (can you believe he hasn’t ever played SMB!), it all came back vividly- “He was this guy, a turtle with spikes, no a dragon, maybe a kimono dragon with spikes on his back and could breathe fire and throw hammers- that kidnapped Princess Peach and he had these castles with mazes- more like lava filled dungeons, that were rigged with spiked pits and angry mushrooms.” Anyways it was really funny because I reverted to that state in life when everything was about SMB, years at least, spent mastering one of the greatest video games ever invented. You can read up on SMB here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mario_Bros. And on the theme of SMB, I now have other reasons for wanting to have some Tesla coils. Here is a video of Twin Solid State Musical Tesla coils playing the Mario Bros theme song…

UPC Sequencer

This is great! The UPC Sequencer! All these great sequencers are coming out and I find that I want all of them. I must say that software sequencers are a better item to be a collector of- I spent most of my teen years collecting guitars and now they sit around, they themselves have started a collection of their own, they are very into fine particles of dust.

i covet the lsdj

What greatness lies in 8 bit. The KiGB v2.0.4 and the Little Sound DJ. These two things are, really all I need in life. Well, just until I can get someone to flash me a cartridge with lsdj and then me and my trusty gba will take over radio waves with the ways of the peaceful robot pirates! This has been the week of enjoying lo-fi technicality. Here is the first run after I got the Game Boy Emulator running on my MBP.

I instantly fell in love with it and was willing to drop $20 on this kitschy piece of awesome technology. You can check out all the specifics and sounds at synthmania.com/rapman.htm. And just as a under 1 min test, I recorded this track for your listening pleasure!

back up vocals

Today G and I spent the day mixing this track that will come out on his next album- “We Have Eyes”. It was fun being back in the setting of a recording studio. It was something that I have always loved to do- recording, mixing, re-mixing or just hanging out around all the electronics and musicians. It is really different now that I live in a studio. All the cool gear has become furniture and slightly overlooked, but today has brought a new page in my love for recording audio. I’ve been playing around with this setup of a cheap microphone, a Boss Dual OverDrive foot pedal, and a super cheap low-fi Hondo practice amp and came up with this sound which led to me singing back up vocals, so check out this sound excerpt with the said sound fuzzing out on this out-take.
